This meeting is a meeting of the Board of Education in public for the purpose of conducting the School District's business and is not considered a public community meeting. Minutes

  • Mrs. Pollock passed out copies of the Fallon Research survey for the board to view and discuss. The survey shows that the community input on education is high - reaffirmed that we are doing a good job overall. Now we need to bridge the gap of why we need the space. The survey was made up of 66% nonparent.
  • Allerton-Hill is pleased with responses; similar types of responses received from suburb schools like Dublin.
  • Mr. Wecker asked if we were only polling registered voters. The answer is yes.
  • Mrs. Pollock shared comments from Facilities Planning Committee and what seemed to be priorities of the community, especially from a sampling that were mostly of households without school-age children. Security and electrical upgrades were major concerns. 
  • Mr. Wecker noted that third parties overlooking our finances - private auditor and Auditor of State.
  •  Mr. Schneider feels the focus should be our key communicators, staff and parents need to be able to tell our story. Fifty percent of the community is still getting their information directly from the people talking.
  • Mrs. Pollock will be attending and be presenting at all PTO meetings in May. She is also in the process of presenting at all staff meeting to educate and share the message. Letter going home to parents and an auto call will be made.
  • Mr. Wecker stated the survey was geared more toward what we are doing in the classroom and not outside the classroom - such as athletics and facilities. He shared that even the elementary kids have to have practice from 7-9 p.m. because of lack of space.
  • Dr. Fagan agreed with athletics and the arts as well. Stage and auditoriums can not hold everyone along with 
  • The July issue of Eagle-Examiner will share issues with Chamber and the Community Library. We will be adding pages, minimal ads solicited from membership so we can do it monthly and district not pay anything for it. Mrs. Meyer stated it is a good partnership for everyone.
  • The May issue of the examiner will be May  - it is too soon to focus on athletics but will revolve around the graduating class.
  • Mrs. Hess said to also take into consideration the apartments are going in, which will be opening in November that will feed into GRE.
  • Mr. Schneider said the plan is 35 new homes 7 houses a month is a goal. Some community members have mentioned that they do not like families beginning prior to living here. Mrs. Pollock explained that statute allows tuition free for building in the district.
  • Mrs. Pollock stated that the rumor is that  Souders has a great deal of space - not true, they are almost at capacity.
  • Mr. Wecker stated that we cannot run the district like an airline - cannot overbook and hope people don't show up we have to plan in case they do show up.

It is recommended the Board enter Executive Session to consider the employment of a public employee or official, to confer with an attorney for the board of education concerning disputes involving the board that are the subject of pending or imminent court action and to discuss confidential information related to negotiations with other subdivisions regarding requests for economic development assistance.
