  • Mr. Wecker recognized Steve Mazzi for attending and thanked him. Mr. Wecker remembered sitting in Mr. Mazzi's office eight years ago when he was a new board member looking around his office at things they had in common and recognizing that "schooling" doesn't end with education. He shared how excited he was with the rollout of the 2020 vision and to see it through and to now watch from the outside as it will continue. He thanked all former and current board members.
  • Mrs. Meyer also thanked Mr. Mazzi for attending to honor her and Mr. Wecker's eight years of service. Along with thanking current and former board members. She shared that serving on the board is truly a labor of love and one that can not be selfish and sometimes personal opinions need to be recognized and put aside for the well being of the students. She stated that BW and the community truly is a very special place to live and attend school. Our students do not have a say in where they attend school but their parents, grandparents and /or guardians do and this is where they choose many times solely because of our schools. As we know we have families moving here for that reason. She challenged the current board to always put the students first when making decisions. Inspire and guide is a timeless mission and she hopes that the board will live by the mission. She also thanked Mr. Schneider for his kind words and tribute in the Eagle Examiner.
  • Mrs. Lee thanked Mrs. Meyer and Mr. Weckedr for teaching and sharing so much with her personally and professionally.
  • Mr. Schneider also thanked both of them for their years of service and the knowledge they have shared. He hopes to continue with the structure and process with the new board.

11. Public Participation
Mr. Brad Schneider

This is a meeting of the Board of Education in public for the purpose of conducting the School District's business and is not considered a public community meeting. This is a time for public participation during the meeting as indicated in the agenda. (Please reference criteria for Public Participation, which is attached to the agenda.)

Minutes

  • Mr. Singer said that as a community member he wanted to say thank you to Mr. Wecker and Mrs. Meyer.
  • Mr. Mazzi reflected back on the eight years that Mrs. Meyer and Mr. Wecker served. He briefly discussed the Tanger letter that Mrs. Meyer basically one-handedly forced Tanger to send to our community which was a saving grace in clarifying misconceptions. He shared that when you think of a leader in an organization or any role is that organization better or worse for the leader...there is no question that the district is better for the leadership of Mrs. Meyer and Mr. Wecker serving on this board. The district is better due to a direct reflection of not only their leadership but true caring for the district, community, and students. He thanked Mrs. Meyer for her drive behind the Mission & Vission and Inspire & Guide branding - it truly is timeless. No matter what role you serve in the district inspiring and guiding that student should always be the main objective. He listed many issues that the board faced during their years of service and indicated that sitting in their seats was not an easy job. He agreed with Mrs. Meyer that individuals run for the board for many reasons and some of them personal; however, the countless behind the scene hours and heart and soul that they gave to this board were selfless with only one thing in mind....the students. He thanked both of them again.
