6.1 District Goals: Student Academic Achievement

Minutes

  • Ms. Pollock shared that since we have been focusing so much on facilities, we will be highlighting at upcoming board meetings on all of our departments. It will be nice to be able to provide an update on other things going on in the district.
  • She shared information on State of the Schools.

  • Mr. Shelton provided several handouts to discuss highlights of our 2017-2018 athletic year:
    • We were very close in the standing in the running for the Ralph Young All-Sports Award - 0.5 points away from the leader.
    • Created a Big Walnut High School Athletic Department Coaches Guide.
  • Mr. Powell shared some of our student-athlete participate numbers and accomplishments for middle school:
    • 38% of our students participated in fall athletics
      • 76 for students participated in Cross Country
      • 38 for football
      • 20 for fall cheer
      • 9 athletes for coed
      • 16 athletes for tennis
      • Mr. Powell noted that we have a lot of really good coaches 
      • We offer 14 sports and and 3 sponsored club sports
      • 26 participants for boys lacrosse, which is a sponsored sport
    • Accomplishments
      • Our CC won first in the Buckeye Valley invitational at the start of the year
      • VB won the Newark tournament
      • Last night our 7th and 8th-grade football teams finished their undefeated seasons

  • After Ms. Neely's presentation, Mr. Buskirk and Ms. Pollock shared a snapshot of the draft forecast and the challenges that are facing the district for staffing and insurance.
