7.1 District Goals: Student Academic Achievement

Minutes

  • The 5th-grade orchestra provided a concert and Mr. McLane followed up with a presentation of BWI Continuous Improvement Plan.
  • Ms. Pollock talked about how the district is having the District Showcase this week, this is where staff can see how other teachers in other buildings are teaching.
  • We are beginning to schedule and staff for next school year.

7.2 District Goal: Improve Communication
  • Kindergarten & Preschool Registration February 20 - March 16 - Mrs. Jen Young
  • DACC Update - Mr. Jim Hildreth

Minutes

Mr. Hildreth gave an update on the Career Center:

  • Career Center BOE generally meets on Thursday's
  • attendance has increased 16% over the last 7 years
  • 59 BW students attending on campus, 72 ag
  • shared the various BW student applications and the programs they are going into
  • DACC is looking at ways to get more BW students to attend
  • shared several stories about DACC students - Jade Sparks, Clowe Wilson, Gabby Adair
  • explained the internship program
  • the building project is moving along - planning to move students into the new building for the 18-19 school year.
  • Mr. Schneider asked how DACC is trying to inform parents of opportunities - mailings and other means of communication

  • recognizing the Westerville Officers and the tragedy in Florida - they will be passing out blue and orange ribbons
  • would like to recognize what the families of our own community have offered
  • the musical is 3 weeks away
  • student met with Marlena for diversity
  • Annual Alumni Hall of Fame is coming

Mr. Schneider

  • would be interested in having our school resource officer come in to speak to the Board
  • we realize that we have to rely on each other because the state is not going to really come through for us - we have to look at it locally
  • we need to be aware of individuals that are showing signs of having a difficult time and be there for them

Mrs. Meyer

  • simple kindness can really help
  • thanked the Facilities Committee for the time they gave up and the work they do to help for the better of the school and the community
  • shout out to the ski club advisers

Dr. Fagan

  • enjoyed hearing the Orchestra - long time coming
  • her office is in Westerville where the officers were shot -the shooting in Florida is only about 15 minutes from where her mom lived, and knows what this area is like.  
  • House Bill 371 - Call Rick Carfgna
  • thanked Jeremy and Angie for the work that was done to affirm the Aa2 Moody's rating
  • social scientist cannot obtain funding to study the cause of gun violence - reach out to legislators to appeal to the block in funding 
  • don't be afraid to reach out to someone that might be struggling - she provided numbers to helplines
  • HB 371 Rick Carfagna needs to hear from community members
